The typical round shield, a metal disk slightly concave, virtually indestructible, made its appearance in the pages of Captain America Comics # 2 (April 1941). It was the shield as used in the various adventures of Captain America.
The shield was created by Myron MacLain, a young American scientist metallurgist. Recruited by the U.S. government with a mandate to create a metal armor indestructible (for military), Myron performed many experiments, using the rare metal known as alien Vibranium. After repeated failures, MacLain tried for the umpteenth time Vibranium to merge with a new alloy steel (in some sources is described as titanium, but was later described as "proto-adamantium).
During the experiment MacLain fell asleep, exhausted, when he wakes up he discovered that his experiment had finally succeeded, thanks to some external factor that the scientist was never able to play more. So he poured the molten metal into a mold (which will make the hatch of the turret of a tank). The disc, painted with current color, was handed over to Captain America by President Roosevelt in person.
The Vibranium present in the shield makes it able to absorb the kinetic energy of any blow without damage and without hurting the one who supports it. In addition, when the shield is launched, even after many subsequent impacts will not lose speed and force of impact.
The alloy adamantium-Vibranium (even if the party in adamantium was identified as such until long after) it is made like the shield to 'adamantium primary, although it does not contain Vibranium adamantium. The shield is totally indestructible and able to absorb and reflect the blows, that the property does not have adamantium. The shield has the indestructibility at Adamant Vibranium and several properties, including the absorption and reflect the vibrational energy.
